What is Glasorium? "When creating this project, we wanted to tap into something entirely new, without relying on traditional references to glass," says Mohammad Alhouri, CEO of MOD. "The intention was to bring guests into a space that felt suspended somewhere amongst the stars. That's why we introduced the phrase 'Made from Starlight and Moondust.' There is a sense that you are stepping into an indescribable place."
Building on this vision, Glasorium was born: a city of glass in a distant corner of the universe. To bring this world to life, the MOD team explored archival Pantone shades, artworks, and material studies in search of a signature colour that could define the experience. The result was Infinite Sky, a bespoke shade of blue developed exclusively for the project and hand-painted across furniture and design elements throughout the space.
Appearing in varying tones and intensities, the colour shifts with the light, moving like ripples across water and creating a sense of depth, movement, and wonder. As the eye wanders through the design, a delicate hand-applied pattern begins to emerge. A fine-line floral motif, chosen for its personal significance, has been woven throughout the space. These contemporary blooms add another layer to the story, hinting at a larger ecosystem beyond what is immediately visible.
If this is indeed a city amongst the stars, are these flowers preserved within a temperature-controlled sanctuary? Are they the last orchids remaining from a distant world? Questions such as these linger in the imagination as guests journey through the space toward their bespoke seating.
The dessert display serves as an instant visual centrepiece, curated in varying shades of crystalline blue. Positioned against a cubed glass wall, the collection of confections and sculptural desserts reflects the project's fantastical narrative while introducing a sense of warmth and familiarity. Despite its futuristic aesthetic, there is something deeply nostalgic within the design; a feeling akin to a distant memory of home.
Perhaps the most captivating element of Glasorium, however, is its ceiling installation. Inspired by luminescent marine life and the graceful movement of sea anemones, the installation stretches across the ballroom in an intricate composition of more than three hundred individually crafted mirrored components, accented with glass details. Suspended overhead, the forms shimmer and pulse as light dances across their surfaces, transforming the ceiling into a living constellation.
